Main Article Content
Abstract
Introduction. Among the tasks we view the analysis of the connections between the basic translated text and the megatext created by the translator; the outline of different megatextual transformations and their relation to the attitudes of the translator, the peculiarities of the author's personal style, etc. Purpose. The aim of our investigation is to analyze the functional nature of the megatextual transformations in the translations of fiction written by a Spanish poet and prosaist F. G. Lorca. The object matter if the investigation is constituted by the comments and remarks made by the translator of F. G. Lorca's fiction; the subject matter is constituted by their relation to the basic translated text. Original and translated F. G. Lorca's texts (translated and commented upon by N. K. Malinovskaya) serve as the material of the present investigation. Results. The pragmatic transformations include megatextual ones that supply the basic translated text with comments, footnotes and explanations. The translator's comments have different functions in relation to the basic text: they explain the context that is based on word-play; they make amendments and corrections to the original text; they specify what paraphrased statements refer to; they point to the intertext (quotes, allusions, reminiscences) and moreover to the intersemiotic insertions in the basic translated text; they explain the missing fragments of the creolized text; they demonstrate the accent or the author's speech defect and the like. Originality. A new classification of translation transformations where the distinction between formal and formally meaningful translation transformations including those who possess a pragmatic component is suggested.
